# Facebook Hosting An Event Next Wednesday, We’ll Be There!

Earlier today, the folks at Facebook were kind enough to send us an invite for an event taking place at their headquarters in Palo Alto next week. While there is no official confirmation as to what is coming, plenty of rumors have already surfaced. It all started about a day or so after [Google+](https://www.skatter.com/google-review/) made a debut when Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg made a comment to a reporter from Reuters that the company’s Seattle office had [something “awesome” to show off](http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/30/us-facebook-idUSTRE75T55S20110630?ref=skatter.com).

Some early speculations include a new [mobile photo sharing app](https://www.skatter.com/facebook-preparing-to-unveil-photo-sharing-app-for-iphone/) we wrote about recently. Although Zuckerberg showed little interest in the Apple iPad as he touted it “is not a mobile device” at [another press event last year](https://www.skatter.com/facebook-mobile-event-liveblog/), some rumors claim a tablet optimized app is on its way.

The most interested speculation, however, comes from [Michael Arrington of TechCrunch](http://techcrunch.com/2011/07/01/facebook-will-launch-in-browser-video-chat-next-week-in-partnership-with-skype/?ref=skatter.com). He claims Facebook plans to launch a [Skype](https://www.skatter.com/tag/skype/) powered video calling service. The move would not be surprising considering that it would be a major take on Hangout in Google+ which is a free ten-person video calling service. After all, [Facebook chat is getting quite rusty](https://www.skatter.com/facebook-chat-why-do-you-still-not-work-correctly/) and it does not even have voice support yet for that matter.

If the Skype implementation turns out to be true, it would potentially bring nearly the 750 million Facebook users to the video calling service which only has around 170 million so far. Microsoft would probably be quite happy too considering that they just [acquired Skype for $8.5 billion](https://www.skatter.com/microsoft-may-acquire-skype-for-8-billion/). Anyways, we will find out what happens next week on Wednesday July 6th at 10 AM (Pacific Time). I will be at the event and will provide instant updates as always on Skatter Tech LIVE.
